About
The Gibraltar Volleyball Association runs junior volleyball in a way that feels like more than one weekly training slot. Alongside regular indoor sessions, including girls' training at Westside School, they also run beach volleyball camps in summer and junior events across the year, so there is a clearer sense of progression than just turning up for an occasional class.
For older teens, there is a genuine competitive pathway too. The association has an under-20 team, and the under-20 boys have been selected to represent Gibraltar at the European Qualifiers in Cardiff. The GVA is also a full member of both the FIVB and CEV, which helps place the local junior setup inside a wider international volleyball structure.
What stands out most, though, is that the club seems to care about development and enjoyment as much as results. Their junior Christmas Scramble is built around mixed teams, lots of matches, and competitive-but-fun volleyball, and the coaching side reflects that same tone. GVA coaches have attended international coaching conventions, including one in Sofia with attendees from 37 countries, bringing back ideas around sports neuroscience, player development, and fun-filled learning rather than a win-at-all-costs approach.
